I found out about King’s Chef in Flushing, NY, from my cousin, who brought their chicken wings over during our family’s Christmas gathering. When I tried them, they had that classic Chinese takeout wing taste, but were much more flavorful, huge, crispy, and amazing. I was a big fan of Chinese takeout chicken wings growing up as a teenager since they were very affordable. Wings with pork fried rice or french fries used to be my go-to. Times have changed regarding prices, but the taste of the wings from King’s Chef has not changed at all—still big and delicious.

I am surprised it took me so long to write about this, but I had actually never come here on my own since my cousin was always the one doing the ordering. So when I had the opportunity to be in the area, I already knew I was going to stop by. I actually visited Amore Pizza first since that place is one of my favorite pizza spots in Flushing, and both spots are located in the same busy strip shopping area. After having my slice, I headed over to the parking area on the other side.

Once I entered, the place had the classic vibe of an old-school Chinese takeout spot, though notably without a kid doing their homework at one of the tables. I placed an order of wings and was told it would take about 15 minutes, which is a great sign that the wings are made to order. The wings are pricey at $13 per order for four full wings, but I already knew it was going to be worth it.

When my order was ready, it was packaged nicely and needed a rubber band to hold the box together. Once I opened the box, the wings were huge; pictures genuinely do not do them justice. I also asked for the hot chili oil since I knew it was delicious with the wings (my cousin always gets them that way).

The wings came out piping hot, and I struggled a little bit trying to break them apart. I usually start with the wing tips. People often don’t bother with that piece, but growing up, I would nibble at the breading—there is actually some meat within the tips, so I eat that part as well. Some people find that weird, but I like it, and if you have never tried it, give it a go! The next part I went for was the drumette, which, as I mentioned, was difficult to break apart from the flat because it was so hot. I dipped it in the hot chili oil and knew I was in for a treat. I also want to mention that the place was kind of warm, and since it is summer, I was sweating while eating. My go-to is the packaged duck sauce with the wings, so I applied duck sauce to each bite, alternating between the duck sauce and the hot chili oil.

The wings were so good, especially eaten fresh right when they are ready. I only ate two wings since I had already had a slice from Amore Pizza, and I knew I was going to stop by another favorite spot later. Yeah, I basically did a personal food tour of my favorites that day.

I haven’t tried any other food items at King’s Chef, so I cannot speak to those, but the Chinese fried chicken wings here are the best ones I have had in NY. If you love chicken wings, you need to stop by King’s Chef if you are in the Flushing area.
