Before I visited Nashville, I knew I had to get the hot chicken down there. After doing some research on Google, Yelp and YouTube, I found that Hattie B’s Hot Chicken and Prince’s Hot Chicken would come up a lot. I tried Hattie B’s Hot Chicken when I visited Atlanta and I really like it so I wanted to try something new when I visited Nashville. Prince’s Hot Chicken had a similar vibe to Hattie B’s and I wanted to try a place that was not a chain or franchise. I stumbled upon Red’s Hot Chicken on Yelp and noticed that it had really good reviews, I cross referenced Google and it also had good reviews. I saw the pictures and I was convinced that this is the hot chicken spot I had to try out and I’m glad I did.

Storefront with street parking

I was not sure if this place had a parking lot but there was street parking in front of McDonald’s so just parked there. When you see from the outside, it looks a bit rough, old, kinda run down but clean. When you enter inside this shack like entrance, there is an order window with menus above it. There was a little line but it went by quick.

I decided to get the Hot Chicken Plate which consists of two boneless thighs and two sides ($16.50). For my sides, I got the Pimento mac and cheese and coleslaw. I also got the Comeback sauce which had a unique taste and went well with the hot chicken.

Choose your Spice wisely

They have various spice levels and since my spice tolerance is low, I decided to get medium which had a slight kick to it. Obviously I had to get a coca cola with my meal.

You can dine outside where there are tables or you can eat inside over at the bar next door. I ate at the bar where it had a nice, chill, old school bar vibe to the place. There was a pool table inside and an art wall.

It is first come, first serve when it comes to the tables inside. After you pick a table to eat at, you wait for your order to be called from the bar where you would pick up your meal.

When the chicken came in, omg… the smell and the look of the hot chicken was mesmerizing. I was really happy and I knew it was gonna be good. The first bite, I had some of the sides which were solid. When I took my first bite of the chicken, it was full of flavor and the outside was really crispy and it did not have much breading and the inside was juicy. The combo of the hot chicken, mac and cheese and coleslaw was so good together and washing it down with a sip of coca cola was amazing. I proceeded to rinse and repeat those steps until the end.

After I finished my meal, I was full and satisfied. I highly recommend Red’s Hot Chicken if you want to try the best hot chicken in Nashville. You can quote me on that.
