My friend suggested we try Burger Bodega, which was actually already on my radar. I had come across this place while researching must-eat spots in Houston, and as an East Coast native, I was definitely intrigued by the name. I was looking forward to seeing how their take on a smash burger stacked up.

Once we walked in, I loved the atmosphere. It was bright and energetic, with hip-hop playing in the background and fun bodega-inspired decor, like branded cereal boxes (Bodega Loops, Bodega Flakes, etc.) and laundry detergent lining the shelves. The place was going for that authentic New York City bodega vibe—just cleaner and brighter.

I ordered the Double Smash Burger ($9.95), which consists of two smashed patties, American cheese, grilled onions, house-made pickles, and Bodega sauce on a potato bun. We grabbed an open seat near the front of the register and waited for our order to arrive. When the burger finally came out, it looked perfect, neatly wrapped in wax paper.

From the first bite, I was sold. The Bodega sauce tasted a lot like Big Mac sauce—which is a personal favorite—and it really enhanced the flavor of the burger. The patty was juicy, and all the ingredients worked together perfectly.

Overall, this was a solid burger, and you should definitely add fries to your order for only $1 more. I had zero complaints, and it was easy to see why this spot has become so popular in Houston.
