When I visited Chicago, one obvious must-eat staple was Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. I did some research, and there were a lot of places suggested on YouTube, Google, and Yelp. Pequod’s Pizza was one of them, and since a friend who lives in Chicago said this was his favorite spot, I knew it had to be the first deep-dish pan pizza I tried.

I went on a Wednesday night and there was no line, so I was able to get seated as soon as I walked in. The vibes were very chill, with a dim atmosphere and TVs for watching sports.

We ended up ordering the medium pan pizza ($21.45) with pepperoni ($3.95) and sausage ($3.95). It took some time to come out—not an eternity, but it was a noticeably long wait. When the pizza finally arrived, our waiter served us the first slice. It was super cheesy and packed with toppings; seeing pepperoni piled on top of pepperoni was a beautiful sight.
The slice was incredibly cheesy and delicious; I truly enjoyed every bite. It was a heavy slice, too—it might not look like much at first, but one will have you feeling good, and two is definitely enough for one sitting! The crust was on another level; I loved how the cheese caramelized around the edges. It was so crispy and buttery that you could almost justify eating the crust first. I ended up using a fork and knife, as it was the easiest way to manage the cheesy, slightly greasy (in a good way!) goodness. A medium pan pizza is more than enough for two people, with plenty of leftovers to spare. Of course, we had to wash it all down with a Pepsi ($3.45 each).

Overall, I had a great experience trying Chicago-style pizza for the first time. I should mention that I didn’t hit up any other pizza spots in the city because I had so many leftovers (I was a bit “pizza’d out”), and I knew other touristy spots would have long lines. Plus, I wanted to save room for all the other food Chicago has to offer. I highly recommend giving Pequod’s a try!
