I found out about Trinciti Roti Shop from a friend who raved that their ‘Bake & Shark’ sandwich was “the bomb.” My friend is a huge foodie who loves exploring different cultures through their cuisine, so I knew I had to add this spot to my list. When he mentioned he was heading into New York just to get that sandwich, I didn’t even wait for him to ask—I already said, “Let’s go!”

Storefront with a line

We arrived in the afternoon and found a line already stretching out the door. Once we finally made it inside, we realized the line actually looped around the interior, too. All in all, it took somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour to get our food, but the anticipation was real.

My friend suggested we start with a Double, which is a fluffy, fried dough (called bara) filled with seasoned, curried chickpeas. It was incredibly filling; honestly, one of these could be a meal by itself. Trust me—it tastes a lot better than it looks! It was flavorful, savory, and a total steal for the price.

For the main event, I got the Bake & Shark. My friend mentioned it might not be actual shark meat—the fish was white and didn’t have a “fishy” smell at all. The sandwich looked amazing and vibrant; it was packed with a thick piece of fried fish, diced cabbage with dressing, tomato, pineapple, and lettuce. The “Bake” (the bread) was soft and fluffy, somewhat similar to the dough used for the doubles. Every bite was refreshing and tasty, but be warned: it is very heavy and filling!

I washed everything down with an ice-cold bottle of Real Coconut Water. Since I was enjoying authentic Caribbean food, I had to go all-in with the experience.

I highly recommend checking this spot out if you’re looking for something unique with a Caribbean twist. I will definitely be back!

Updated (January 2026)

I returned on a Tuesday night, and luckily, the line wasn’t out the door—which was a relief because it was freezing outside! There was still a line, but it didn’t loop around like it did during my first visit. I already knew exactly what I wanted: a double, but with protein this time.

Since my friend ordered for us last time, I didn’t really know what the ordering process was like. Once you order, you can actually watch the staff assemble your doubles. They definitely aren’t stingy with the ingredients, which is always a great sign that the meal is going to be hearty and delicious.

I ended up getting the Boneless Chicken and Curry Beef doubles ($4.16 each). I was getting so hungry and excited, especially after watching them pile on the toppings!

Here’s me diving into the Boneless Chicken double.

One thing I really appreciate about this shop is the handwashing station located outside the bathroom. I wish more places did this! It’s so much more convenient to be able to wash your hands without having to wait for someone who is using the restroom.
