Update (August 2026)

I stopped by Mis Raices Restaurant again to try out another lunch menu item: the chuleta with yellow rice and brown beans. I first started off with the beef with cheese empanada ($2.75), and it was solid.

The chuleta is a fried or baked pork chop, and it was tasty—a little on the salty side, but I prefer that over no flavor. As per usual, I asked if they could add beef gravy on top of the yellow rice, and they did. My friend got the pernil, and this time they gave him some crispy pork skin, which is how it should be served. I guess they had run out when I ordered it last time.

Great place, service, and food. I will definitely be back to get the pernil.

Original Post (April 6, 2026)

I’ve had Mis Raices Restaurant bookmarked on Yelp for quite some time. I can’t remember exactly how I stumbled upon it—either a random search or a review from a fellow Yelp Elite member—but after cross-referencing Google and seeing the same positive feedback, I knew it was a must-try spot.

Parking can be a bit tricky, as the restaurant is located on a single block packed with other dining options, so keep that in mind if you’re driving.

The Vibe & Service

Upon entering, you’re greeted by a beautiful mural on the right that clearly pays tribute to the restaurant’s cultural roots. We checked in at the register, and the host immediately led us to a table with menus. One highlight was the complimentary buttered toast they brought out—it was warm, surprisingly flavorful, and a great way to start the meal.

The Main Event: Pernil

I ordered from the lunch menu ($9.99) and went straight for what I came for: the Pernil (roasted pork). The lunch special includes a variety of rices; you can choose between white, yellow, or rice mixed with beans, along with your choice of black or red beans. I decided to get the yellow rice and black beans, and I requested some beef gravy (sauce) to top the rice.

When the plate arrived, it looked incredible. The portion size was generous, and the small Puerto Rican flag placed on top of the rice was a perfect touch. The pernil was seasoned well and not overly salty. Pairing it with the beef gravy over the rice is a total game-changer. My only small regret was missing out on the crispy pork skin; I’m not sure if it’s an option, but I’m definitely going to try to request it on my next visit.

Final Thoughts

Overall, it was a fantastic experience, from the service to the quality of the food. A fresh, made-to-order lunch special for just $9.95 with such large portions is unmatched. I highly recommend everyone stop by Mis Raices Restaurant for a solid, authentic meal.
