I found out about Jimmy Best Chinese when I was searching for Chinese takeout spots in the Bronx, New York. I saw a picture of their boneless spare ribs and knew right away that I had to try this spot out. The boneless spare ribs looked juicy and more on the thick-cut, pork-belly side.

My first visit was about two years ago, back in September 2024. I really didn’t know what to expect, so when I drove there, I found that Jimmy Best Chinese is located in a shopping area with a crowded parking lot. The place has a typical Chinese takeout vibe: a few tables to dine in, one table dedicated to store stock, an ATM machine, and a faded food and menu display.

I ordered the Boneless Spare Ribs combo, which comes with pork fried rice. It took some time, which is great since everything is made to order. When my order came out, I was so glad I made the trek. The boneless spare ribs were thick-cut, juicy, and packed with flavor. The pork fried rice was made fresh and piping hot as well, and the pieces of pork mixed in were very meaty. It was so tasty, and I knew right away these were the best boneless spare ribs from a Chinese takeout spot I had ever had.

A couple of years later, I finally made my way back. I actually stopped by a couple of weeks ago, but they were closed because Jimmy had gone out on vacation. I found out about this from the pizza shop next door, and since I was starving, I grabbed a quick slice from there to hold me over. On my return trip, I got my usual order: the Boneless Spare Ribs with pork fried rice (Luncheon Special for $14). I also added an order of chicken wings because a fellow customer ordered them, and I figured I might as well try them out since I am a fan of classic Chinese takeout wings.

When my order came out, it was just as good as I remembered from two years ago—fresh and delicious. The pork fried rice was hot with big pieces of pork, and the wings were piping hot too. On the first bite, I dipped a wing in hot chili oil, and it was incredible. It had that nostalgic, classic Chinese takeout taste—if you know, you know. The wings were solid, and I could easily see why they are a crowd favorite.

The combo of the ribs and pork fried rice was amazing, especially after adding some duck sauce to the rice. The whole meal was a home run.

I also had a chance to speak with Jimmy, and he told me he opened the shop over 20 years ago. He shared stories about his vacation to Shanghai and how much he enjoyed his time there with his family. He mentioned that his favorite dish at his shop is the boneless spare ribs, which is also a crowd favorite—no surprise there! Both he and his wife are very friendly.

I do want to mention something you will see in Google and Yelp reviews: if you order from Jimmy himself, the food tends to look a bit better presented. The food tastes identical no matter who makes it, but the preparation looks a little cleaner when Jimmy handles it. I can personally vouch for this, but you get that same great taste either way.

Overall, I can honestly say these are the best boneless spare ribs I have ever had from a Chinese takeout spot in my life. You definitely need to stop by Jimmy Best Chinese if you are a fan of boneless spare ribs or classic Chinese takeout.
