I first came to Gulab Indian Restaurant in Cliffside Park, NJ, when a friend picked it for lunch. This is his favorite and go-to Indian restaurant. The place is not huge and features a mix of standard tables and booth seating.

I have been here a few times and always enjoyed my meal. I am pretty basic when it comes to Indian food, usually rotating between Tandoori Chicken Tikka, chicken tikka masala, and butter chicken. I have ordered all of them on my visits here, and honestly, I can’t tell you which one is my favorite—they are all great and just depend on what I am in the mood for.

The All Day Gulab Special is what I usually order from, which consists of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. When you dine in, they serve you complimentary papadam, which is a flat, wafer-thin, and crunchy large circle served with sides of brown sweet sauce and green spicy sauce for dipping. It is very tasty, and the sauces enhance the flavor without being too heavy—a perfect way to kick off the meal. During my last visit, I ordered from that all-day menu and started off with the chicken samosa. It was pretty big and packed with ground chicken, served with the samosa sitting on the plate while being drizzled with those same sweet and spicy sauces as a garnish. With every bite, I made sure to scoop up both sauces to give it a major kick of flavor. I always kick things off with this dish.

For my main, I got the butter chicken. It comes in a bowl filled to the brim, accompanied by a side of rice. There is plenty of sauce to spare, so I like to mix it right into the rice—kinda like a curry rice—making every single bite flavorful alongside the butter chicken. It is so good, and they give you a generous amount.

For dessert, I always get the Gulab Jamun, which is a deep-fried dough ball soaked in a sweet sugar syrup. The dough reminds me of an old-fashioned doughnut, and the syrup gives it a wonderful, sweet touch. It is delicious and definitely something everyone should try at least once. I have tried the other desserts here, but ever since trying the gulab jamun, I can only get this now. (Honestly, I want one right now just thinking about it.)

My whole experience dining here has been great, and I would highly recommend ordering the All Day Gulab Special if you want the most bang for your buck. I do want to mention that the Tandoori Chicken Tikka is not part of the All Day Gulab Special, but I would still highly recommend it if you are a fan.
